The Christmas season can be tough for a lot of people. Feeling like there is no hope, reminded of empty promises, maybe even the loss of something or someone special. The story of Zechariah and Elizabeth is one many of us can relate to in some way. Longing for a child after years of barrenness, they understood what it meant to hope for something that seemed out of reach. They understood what it felt like to experience loss in a culture and time where having a child meant the world. But a Christmas Miracle was in the works. Despite their situation, they continued to pursue God in faithfulness. And it is in light of their faithfulness, God answered their prayers for a child in a powerful way. Not only did God bless them with a son, the continuation of their family lineage, but God would use their son John to usher in His own Son Jesus. Even when things seem bleak, hope exists!
